Early Treatment
A child should have their
first orthodontic consultation by the age of seven. Though
most orthodontic treatment occurs during adolescence,
it is recommended that each child visit an orthodontist
before then to begin discussing proactive treatment and
method. Your child may require an orthodontic consultation
if he or she experiences any of the following:
- Early or
late loss of teeth
- Finger sucking
- Mouth breathing
- Speech difficulties
- Problems chewing or biting
- Crowded, misplaced, or missing
teeth
- Jaws that shift or ‘click’ when opened
and closed
- Over or under bites
- Jaw clenching or teeth grinding
It is beneficial to begin early treatment (also known
as ‘Phase I Treatment’) as soon as possible.
This can help lessen orthodontic problems that may occur
during adolescence. Because prevention is so crucial, Dr. Symonds offers all patients a free initial consultation.
